Fun Facts

The Centre is 50 years old having officially opened on the 1st of October 1970 and one of the first purpose built shopping centres in Ireland along with Stillorgan Shopping Centre.
The shopping centre used to be an external open aired mall before a roof was put on in 1984 year and covered in completely by 1988.
Northside Shopping Centre is the only shopping centre in Ireland with a swimming pool on the roof of the Centre. Built in the early 1970’s it has provided an amenity to all the local schools in the area and to the general public down through the years. It holds close on 300,000 litres of water and we hope it never leaks. Otherwise we will have one of the cleanest Centres in Ireland!
Since the year 2000 over 40 million people have visited the centre from near and far.
There are over 750 people employed in the centre, mainly from the local area.
The tenant who has operated in the centre the longest is Bronwyn Headon of Northside Eyecare having been in business for over 40 years now.
The shopping centre has been a major contributor to local charities over the last 20 years.
President Michael D Higgins visited the centre on the 1st of May 2017 to open the local NCU unit which was given over to them to launch a local jobs network and has been extremely successful to date. They provide job seeking, training and all the courses needed to get people back into the workforce.
The Centre is well known down through the years for their promotional events throughout the year. The main focal point of the year has always been the arrival of Santa and has been a major community driven event since arriving to Northside Shopping Centre in a helicopter in the 1980’s. He has since arrived by horse drawn cart, by bus, fire engine and the event has grown bigger and bigger each year. We have a great event planned each year and have included the Dublin Gospel Choir, marching pipe bands, Garda escorts, Blood Bikes East and Blood Bikes Dublin, and our very own local born and bred national television and radio celebrity Mr. Martin King, to name but a few.
